Community Center Project

Construction is underway on the new  21,017 sq. ft. Community Center, which will be located on the corner of West Capitol Ave. and Merkley Ave., across from City Hall.  As the final piece in the new Civic Center District, it will complete this 4-building campus to include City Hall, Los Rios College extension building and the new Arthur F. Turner County Library.  To help bring this vision to reality, the City secured the services of Group 4 Architecture Research & Planning to help guide city staff and decision makers though a visioning, public input, and conceptual design process that brought about working plans for the construction of this much needed public facility, and has hired C&C Construction as the general contractor.

At the heart of the new community center will be a place for older adults and seniors.  In addition to the Senior Lounge, the facility will include a cafe and lounge, multi-purpose room, two (2) classrooms for both physical and passive activities, a catering kitchen, an early childhood preschool center, black box theater, a gallery for the displaying of works of art and items of both cultural and historic interest, and support spaces for both Recreation staff and Historical Society volunteers.  Construction should be completed by fall of 2010.
