School Resource Officer Program

Our School Resource Officer Program (SRO) places these officers in our schools full-time to provide a variety of support programs and services to the students and staff.  The overall goals of the program are to maintain a safe and secure learning environment on the school campus, influence the development of positive attitudes by youth towards the law enforcement community, and to reduce juvenile crime through the use of intervention strategies, proactive policing, and networking.

Our current SROs are Officers Mark Kirkland and Ken Fellows who work in collaboration with the Washington Unified School District, the Youth Diversion Counselor and a Yolo County Juvenile Probation Officer.  The SRO's provide a law enforcement presence on school campuses, which contributes to establishing a safe and orderly environment for students and faculty.  Counseling, crisis intervention, classroom presentations and mentoring are only a few of the services provided by the SRO's

SROs Marc Kirkland and Ken Fellows also implement the G.R.EA.T. program at the high school and elementary school levels.  Both officers have completed the necessary training to be certified G.R.E.A.T. instructors.  The Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) Program is a school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curriculum. With prevention as its primary objective, the program is intended as an immunization against delinquency, youth violence, and gang membership.   Read more about the G.R.E.A.T. program.

Our SRO vehicles have a different color scheme from the regular patrol vehicles.
