Yolo County Area Law Enforcement Team (ALERT)
The West Sacramento Police Department maintains unit of officers who are selected, trained, and equipped to work as a coordinated team to resolve critical incidents.  In accordance with the Yolo County Area Law Enforcement Agreement for an Area Law Enforcement Team (“ALERT Agreement”) these sworn officers from the West Sacramento Police Department have integrated with members of the Davis Police Department in order to establish one of the two regional Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) teams serving the needs of Yolo County.  Because of this agreement our SWAT team is referred to as the ALERT team.

The ALERT team is the unit within the police department which has the primary responsibility of responding to critical incidents which are so hazardous, complex, or unusual that they may exceed the capabilities of first responders or investigative units.  The position of ALERT team member is a collateral duty which the officers only perform as the need arises.  When not training or responding to incidents with ALERT team members perform a multitude of duties from routine patrol to traffic enforcement.

The members of the ALERT team train on high risk tactics every month of the year. During those training sessions officers continue to hone their expertise in such areas as shooting skills, dynamic entry techniques, slow and deliberate searches, chemical agent deployments, team movements, linear assaults, land navigation, "less than lethal" weapons deployments, active shooter responses, hostage rescue, night operations, and physical fitness to name but a few
