Evergreen Emergency Sewer Repair

Location of project:

The emergency sanitary sewer project location was on Evergreen Avenue, from Pine Street to 800 feet east of Harbor Boulevard, and on Harbor Boulevard north from Evergreen to an existing manhole near West Capitol Avenue.

Completion Date:
May 15, 2009

Brief description of project:
The sanitary sewer lines in these locations were backing up continuously and the city was frequently unplugging and cleaning. A closed circuit video of the lines showed that the pipes concrete and clay pipes had eroded completely through in several locations. Because of the severity and locations of the damaged pipes, engineering staff decided on two alternatives for repair. The repairs were a combination of placing new pipes and manholes in areas that were beyond repair, and placing pipe lining in areas that were repairable. Most of the work was performed at night to help minimize public traffic inconvenience and to minimize impacts to businesses. A follow up video was performed to verify that all work and workmanship was performed correctly and to the satisfaction of the city. There have been no sewer problems in the project area since.
