Brief description of project:

Geospatial geographic information system (GIS) utility asset infrastructure mapping combines survey grade terrestrial and global positioning system (GPS) infrastructure data, and a GIS database to create accurate utility asset infrastructure system maps.  Public Works Construction Engineering – Drafting Service Technical Staff are employing terrestrial and GPS surveying equipment along with CAD and GIS mapping software to create and edit map geometry, three (3) dimensionally, object data, object data tables, data layers and external databases in support of mapping the City’s utility asset infrastructure  (i.e. water, sanitary sewer, storm drain and streetlights).

GIS Utility Infrastructure Asset Mapping, city-wide, Progress to Date (03/2006 – 12/2010):

  • One-hundred percent (100%), city-wide, of GPS survey data collection and GIS fire hydrant utility infrastructure asset mapping has been completed.
  • Approximately ninety-nine percent (99%), city-wide, of GPS survey data collection and GIS streetlight utility infrastructure asset mapping has been completed.
  • Approximately sixty-four percent (64%), city-wide, of GPS survey data collection and GIS water utility infrastructure asset mapping has been completed.
  • Approximately fifty-seven percent (57%), city-wide, of GPS survey data collection and GIS sanitary sewer utility infrastructure asset mapping has been completed.
  • Approximately fifty percent (50%), city-wide, of GPS survey data collection and GIS storm drain utility infrastructure asset mapping has been completed.

Streetlights - City-wide (Phases I & II):

To date, 4,374 street lights have been geospatially mapped, and Streetlight infrastructure asset mapping is on schedule to be completed in the Fall of 2010.
