Economic Development

West Sacramento municipal leaders are committed to a business climate that enhances business productivity. This is why West Sacramento has no local utility taxes, a low flat-rate business license fee and a full complement of economic development services.

The city's economic development specialists can assist your business with site identification and business resource referrals to local employers, trade groups, local brokers and developers. The city's streamlined permitting process includes a guaranteed 14-day response time for commercial building plan reviews. An economic development specialist will be your single contact for your project with city development review staff.

Want some technical assistance in advance of your plan submittal? Ask the city's economic development specialist for a personal meeting with the Project Review Committee, a one-stop development review meeting with staff from all departments to evaluate your proposed project.

West Sacramento Restaurant Strategy

Do you own or operate a restaurant in West Sacramento?  Are you considering locating a new restaurant in the City?  The West Sacramento Economic Development Division may be able to help.  We have business services and funding available for existing or new restaurants wishing to expand or locate.  In 2009, the City of West Sacramento completed the West Sacramento Retention and Attraction Strategy to identify actions that the City could take to retain and attract restaurants to the City.

Dining opportunities and restaurants are a key component of a community's quality of life.  Restaurants generate a large amount of economic activity that provide jobs, generate public tax revenue and help enliven urban areas.  Full-service (table service) restaurants are also strong job creators, especially for targeted income groups, and are a key component of the City's economic development strategy.  The City also has a Restaurant Guide listing all the restaurants in the City.

There are approximately 95 restaurants in West Sacramento with the overwhelming majority being quick-service restaurants (counter service, no bar) and family-dining restaurants (table service, no bar).  Most restaurants in West Sacramento are locally-owned.  The lack of many casual-dining restaurants and full-service restaurants is perceived as a quality of life issue and an impediment to fully achieving the City's revitalization goals for the West Capitol Avenue Corridor, the Central Business District surrounding the intersection of West Capitol Avenue and Jefferson Boulevard, and the Wasington neighborhood.

The City also completed a West Sacramento Restaurant Survey in 2009.
