DESCRIPTION
Acts in an advisory capacity to the council on all matters pertaining
to the elderly, and all general matters concerning issues related to the
planning and implementation of programs designed to address the needs
of the aging population. Specific areas of involvement include:
examination and evaluation of programs and services within the city targeted to the elderly, identification of specific areas of need for the elderly, providing advice and recommendations on plans for the provision of services targeted to the elderly, providing advice and recommendations on specific recreation programs of need and concern to the elderly, providing recommendations on the procurement of grants and other similar programs of financial assistance to further programs and services for the elderly, advise the council of issues and concerns related to the aging population, and serve as an advisory committee for any program or grant designed to target the aging population.
The Commission meets bi-monthly in the Council Chambers. Meetings are televised on Wave Cable.
The Commission is staffed by the Parks & Recreation Department (617-4620).
