| DESCRIPTION
Acts in an advisory capacity to the Council in any matter or issue affecting the well being, enhancement, and/or enrichment of the citizens; acts in an advisory capacity in matters pertaining to use, maintenance, improvement and development of city parks. Special interests may include recreation and leisure services and human services. Specific areas of involvement include:
assist in the promotion of city recreation programs;
identify areas of need regarding recreation and leisure programs;
provide recommendations and comment on the development of recreation sites and facilities; develop and coordinate an application process for budgeted city funds for community-based organizations; including time lines, criteria for evaluation and a substantive basis upon which to recommend funding by the city council on an annual basis, and evaluate and provide recommendations on proposed policies regarding the acquisition and development of future city parks.
The Commission meets bi-monthly in the Council Chambers. All meetings are televised on Charter Cable.
The Commission is staffed by the Parks & Recreation Department (617-4620).
