Reduce & Recycle
- Buy recyclable. For example, when purchasing milk, choose a plastic container that is recyclable, as opposed to milk in a carton, which is not recyclable.
- Bring a reusable shopping bag each time you go to the grocery store. If you choose paper or plastic, reuse them at home for trash bags or to put newspaper in.
- Donate unwanted household furnishings, clothes, etc., instead of throwing
away. Some organizations will even pick up your items from your home.
- Shop second-hand. Not only is buying "used" environmentally sounds, but it saves money!
- Pay attention to packaging. Let manufacturers know that you don't appreciate their wasting resources on unnecessary, excess packaging.
- Buy recycled. Recycled content products have become equal, if not better, in quality than their virgin counterparts. Buying recycled closes the recycling loop.
- Take advantage of community events designed to help you properly dispose of various items and products.
- Save your shredded paper to use as packing material.
- Donate used greeting cards to the local Senior Center or Community Services Department to be used in craft projects.
