Al Terrell, Fire Chief
Welcome to the West Sacramento Fire Department. I take great pride and pleasure in sharing insights into the history and the services provided by the West Sacramento Fire Department.
The West Sacramento Fire Department's origin dates back to 1896, with the formation of the Washington (Broderick) Fire Protection District. Ultimately, the Washington Fire Protection District, the Bryte Fire Protection District, and the Westgate Fire Protection District consolidated to form the East Yolo Fire Protection District. The boundaries of the City of West Sacramento mirror those of the former East Yolo Fire Protection District.
The West Sacramento Fire Department provides a full and complete range of services throughout the city and to the public. Areas where services are provided include, but are not limited to, the following activities and programs: Fire Prevention; Public Education; Code Enforcement; Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Response; Domestic Terrorism Preparedness, Training, and Response; a complete Hazardous Materials Management, Enforcement, and Response program; Rescue and Life saving activities; Emergency Medical Services; and Fire Suppression and Extinguishment activities.
The Department has 65 uniform employees and 5 civilian employees.
Emergency services are provided from five fire stations located
strategically throughout the city. The Department responded
to 5,992 emergency incidents in 2006. To better serve our City,
the Department entered into Automatic Mutual Aid response agreements
with fire departments in Yolo County and with the City of Sacramento.
The West Sacramento Fire Department is committed to excellent delivery of fire services and to outstanding customer service.
