The fire department has a fire safety inspection program for businesses in the city. The engine companies make the inspections on a one or two year cycle. The inspections cover general fire safety, exiting, fire extinguishers, checking the fire sprinkler system if the building is so equipped, and updating of emergency numbers for the company.

The Fire Department is an active member of the City's Project Review Committee. We meet with builders and help them in the early stages of design. All related departments in the City participate on this committee.

The Fire Department has the responsible of investigating all fires in the city. The Fire Department has several trained fire investigators on shift. The fire investigators will determine the fire cause and origin.
Home Smoke Detectors:
The Fire Department can answer any questions about smoke detectors that you may have. If you are unable to install a smoke detector in your home, call the Fire Department and we will send someone out to install it for you. If you don't have a smoke detector and can't afford one we will give you one. Remember to replace the battery in your smoke detector when you change your clocks for daylight savings time.
