West Sacramento Community Theater: Shakespeare in the Park Auditions

Shakespeare Workshop – “Measure for Measure”

Auditions- Sunday April 20, Monday April 21

 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

This will be an informal audition process.  A memorized, short (2 minutes or less) monologue is preferred, but not required.  All participants will be invited to join the workshop and will have the opportunity to participate in the performance.  Roles will be determined by number of participants and skill level.  You must be age 14 or older to audition.

Rehearsal/workshop dates will run Monday through Thursday from April 28 to July 11, 2008.  (Not all participants will be required to be at all rehearsals.)

Performances will be on July 12, 13, 19, 20, 26, 27  at 6 p.m. at the Bridgeway Lakes Park or the River Walk Park. TBD

Auditions are being held in a portable classroom near the corner of Westacre Road and Evergreen Avenue (the room faces Evergreen).  Signs will be posted for West Sacramento Community Theater.

Workshop will be taught by Helen Dahlberg.  Helen holds a B. A. in Theatre Arts, and has studied at the British American Drama Academy (BADA) Midsummer in Oxford.  She has experience as a performer in both film and stage, as well as backstage technical theater experience.  She recently completed teaching a Shakespeare workshop for the Woodland Opera House theatre company.

In the workshop, we will explore and learn to understand the language of Shakespeare as well as find new and innovative ways to perform the play as a whole all leading up to a presentation and performance of our final piece, Measure for Measure. A portion of the workshop will be sitting down and going through the language itself to discuss what to look for, etc. The rest of the workshop will consist of getting the piece up and flying. Through close group work, we will create a space that is active and engaging.

Please call our message line at:  (916) 491-1085 if you have any questions.  For more information also see:  www.WestSacTheater.com
