Free Trees and Tree Care Education to Homes and Businesses

The West Sacramento Tree Program continues to provide free trees to homes and businesses. To qualify for up to 2 large, fifteen gallon, trees with stakes, you must attend a workshop where tree planting and tree care information is provided.  During the workshop you will learn how to plant and maintain your new trees for maximum growth and health.  Click Tree Planting to view information about how to plant a tree.  Specific species were chosen based on their resistance to pests and diseases, structural integrity, and friendly root systems. There are 10 species of trees to choose from!  You may choose two trees; one tree must be planted close to the street to shade heat absorbing asphalt. The 2nd tree may be planted anywhere on your property. Within two weeks, the trees will then be delivered to your home or business.

When:  The next Residential Tree Workshops will be held at City Hall on Wednesday nights at 6:30 beginning in October 2008.

Where: City Hall, 1110 West Capitol Avenue, Room 160 on the first floor. Cost: Free to West Sacramento Residents

How to sign up: Contact the Tree Program today at 617-4620 to reserve your space in the next workshop.

Volunteer to Plant a Tree!

The effects of tree planting can be profound for reversing the current environmental decline in cities and rural areas across the globe. The need for the residents of West Sacramento to participate in the planting of trees in our community has never been greater. Urban heat islands, power shortages, storm-water pollution, skin cancer, and pollution-caused lung disease are worsening daily. Tree planting in our community can provide some of the most effective tools to prevent or mitigate these immense problems. Join us to make West Sacramento Greener and Cooler!   Call 617-4620 to add your name to our tree planting volunteer list!
