Gallery 1075 invites 2D artists to participate in “Our Art Matters: Visualizing the African American Experience”
The exhibition will be on display for the month of February. It will also be a part of a larger celebration in recognition of African American History month at the West Sacramento Community Center. The special event will close out the month with an art reception and performances on Wednesday, February 27th 2019.
Gallery 1075 is now accepting visual art submissions until Friday January 18th 2019.
All art must fit the theme of the show. Art will be inspired by or related to the African American experience. Examples of art may be inspired or relate to: depictions of African American life, celebrations of aspects of African American life, the African American diaspora, African American history, civil rights and social justice.
African-American artists are strongly encouraged to apply, all artists are welcome. Gallery 1075 is located inside the West Sacramento Community Center and is open to the public and in view of the street. Due to the high visibility of the gallery all artwork must be family-friendly.
A section of the exhibition will be devoted to young adults. Students from 9th to 12th grade are welcome to submit artwork that relates to the theme.
There are no fees associated with this exhibition. Gallery 1075 does not sell any artwork. All sales are the responsibility of the artists after the exhibition closes.
How to apply?
Email: firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject: Our Art Matters. Please attach images, and list your name, work title, age (if under 18), medium, and dimensions (and frame dimensions) of each work in body of the email. Please tell us a little about the work and your ties to West Sacramento if any.
Artists may submit up to 3 artworks, artwork will be accepted based on its relation to theme Our Art Matters and room within the gallery. Deadline midnight of January 18th.

a) 2 dimensional work only
b) Art must be family friendly
c) Max size 36 in x 48 in, 50 lbs. max
d) All work must be wired in the back*
e) Paper works must be framed and under glass, over 28 in x 36 in and must use Plexiglass
f) All accepted artists will be responsible to sign and return an exhibition contract, release of liability, and title card sheet provided by the West Sacramento Community Center prior to display. The utmost care will be used in accepting, storage, and display of all received artworks.
*Your artwork will need to have the ability to be hung from the back by a horizontal hanging wire. Artist is responsible for providing artwork with appropriate hanging wire. For example, artwork can be framed with a braided wire on the back or a gallery canvas with a braided wire attached to the back. On the back of the frames, a wire will need to be mounted. Ideally, the wire needs to be 1/3 down from the top of the frame and been strung as tight as possible. There will be no hanging of artwork directly on walls. Unstable, extremely fragile, broken, mended, or chipped work will not be displayed in gallery.
