New Levee Project Offers Greater Flood Protection
The Southport Improvement Project included the construction of more than 3.6 miles of setback levee. The offset areas, between the old levee and new setback levee, include a low flow channel and various island features.
Over the last few weeks, the area has become home to a variety of waterfowl and other wildlife. Later this year the West Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency will be implementing a planting project that will include more than 80,000 trees.
