Youth Fire Academy Now Accepting Applications
The West Sacramento Fire Department is accepting applications for the 2019 Youth Fire Academy. The program aims to educate a diverse group of local high school students on careers in the fire service.
Training will consist of an introduction to all aspects of the fire service with part of the focus placed on preparing the cadets for a mock hiring process consisting of the written, CPAT, and oral interview. Cadets will then go through a week-long tower training in which firefighting skills will be taught and practiced.
- Applications are due on April 30th at 5:00 pm. Interviews will be held in May and 15-18 candidates will be selected.
- Training will be held from June 17th through June 28th. The first week will be classroom training and the second week will be tower training.
- The Academy will culminate with the cadets being assigned to a WSFD apparatus where they will work shifts to fulfill required volunteer hours while riding along on emergency calls and experiencing station life.
