Sycamore Trail Extended
Wednesday, May 1, 2019.
Mayor Christopher Cabaldon was joined by members of the City council, staff, and project supporters from the Washington Unified School District, Sacramento Area Council of Governments, and WALKSacramento to celebrate the new Sycamore Trail extension.
This segment connects Michigan Blvd. to West Capitol Avenue and features enhanced security through trail lights and emergency vehicle access. The trail also provides a safe route for students in the neighborhood attending Westfield Elementary School.
The trail project is a much-needed north/south connection for bikes and pedestrians linking Westfield Elementary/Westfield Park and Joey Lopes Park. It is envisioned to continue over US 50 to Westmore Oaks Elementary all the way across the Barge Canal into Southport.
- Trail Lighting: Lights allow City Police and Fire to have a clear line of sight along the entire corridor. Lights are motion sensor activated.
- Pedestrian and Bicycle Access: The Maintenance Gates have been removed allowing continuous access to the trail. A pedestrian ADA crossing has been installed across Michigan Boulevard.
- Landscaping: The shrubs, ground cover, and gabion baskets help create a natural environment. The plants are drought resistant and provide a scenic outdoor destination.
