Port Cleanup Celebration

Port of West Sacramento officials joined members of the River City Rowing Club, Lake Washington Sailing Club, and UC Davis Rowing Team to celebrate the completion of the Lake Washington cleanup project. The ambitious eight year effort included the removal and disposal of several barges and derelict boats that had been illegally abandoned in Port water for many years. VIDEO RECAP.
Port Chief Operating Officer Rick Toft spoke at the event, thanking state and federal agencies for supporting the cleanup including the United States Coast Guard, Cal Recycle, and State Parks – Division of Boating and Waterways.
Port Commission board chair and Yolo County Supervisor Oscar Villegas also spoke, and marveled at the improvement in water quality making it safer for boaters and fishermen who frequent Lake Washington.
City Councilmember Babs Sandeen along with several city staff members were also on hand to mark the occasion. The project was supported by approximately $3 million in federal and state funding.
