Rec Center Celebrates Refurbished Basketball Court with Kings

A packed house helped usher in a new beginning for the West Sacramento Recreation Center's well used auxiliary gym on Saturday, January 11th.  Youth basketball league players, their parents, and local dignitaries took part in a ribbon cutting to celebrate the sparkling refurbished gym floor thanks to a partnership with the Sacramento Kings and Kaiser Permanente.

The court is used year round by hundreds of athletes, including boys and girls basketball teams and PE classes from River City High School, junior and adult recreation league basketball programs, volleyball, pickleball, sports camps and ROTC.

Mayor Christopher Cabaldon spoke, along with Recreation Center Manager Paul Reyes and representatives from the Kings, Kaiser Permanente and the Washington Unified School District.

Kings star player Bogdan Bogdanovic was also on hand and received a hearty ovation after swishing the first "official" shot made an the new floor.

Following the ceremony, the Kings conducted a  Jr. basketball clinic for 60 West Sacramento players.
