Significant progress has been made on the Southport Levee Improvement Project over the last year. It will improve nearly six miles of vulnerable levee along the Sacramento River west levee in Southport. Take a look back at the milestones to date.

Construction Highlights

  • 600,000+ cubic yards of dirt hauled from Riverpark Borrow Sites
  • 93,000+ cubic yards of dirt hauled and restoration work completed
  • 15,000 feet of Setback Levee Embankment constructed
  • 14,200+ feet of Slurry Wall installed
  • Roadway construction work including South River Road Realignment
  • Well/Septic system abandonments and structure removals
  • Utility relocation
  • Drainage culvert installations

Looking Forward

The contractor will begin early work over the next 6 weeks which will include: waterside silt fence installation, material sampling of existing levee, stump removal and back fill, miscellaneous demolition activities, degrade of adjacent land side roads/driveway connections, topsoil stripping, roadway milling and setback levee-roadway grading. The timing and amount of work will depend on the weather and river levels. Throughout 2018 the contractor’s construction activities will include the following:

  • Setback levee embankment work
  • Setback levee slurry wall installation
  • North and south offset area grading
  • New roadway construction
  • Erosion repair work
  • Road closures
