Community Art Event
On August 4, the City is hosting a pop-up community art event from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the City owned garage on 5th and C Street to solicit public participation and feedback for the Washington Art Plan. The Public Art Plan will implement the strategies in the Washington Realized Sustainable Community document and is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) grant, River Crossing. The event will feature installation of a new temporary mural that wraps the building, live music and host local food trucks, makers and designers with items for purchase. Prior to this event, a Sacramento-based artist will be creating a mural on the exterior of the building to conclude the day of the event (see rendering below). This mural is being created to demonstrate the masterplan’s intent to incorporate art as an essential component of circulation and promote a distinct identity for the Washington neighborhood. The event is intended to gain feedback from local residents regarding the future of public art in the Washington District and will be held at 422 C Street, West Sacramento, CA 95605. Due to the lack of on-site parking, publicity for the event will encourage bicycle and pedestrian travel to the site and include Jump Bike and VIA information.
