christopher cabaldonAs a City Council member, seven-term mayor and resident, I have been privileged to witness the transformation of West Sacramento from a forgotten corner of unincorporated Yolo County to a vibrant city that is recognized regionally and statewide for its innovative, business-friendly government, quality of life, and unsurpassed potential.

Whether you’re already a West Sacramento resident or business owner, or you’re considering West Sacramento as a place to live or start a business, I encourage you to get to know this community better. There is something here for everyone. I could try to describe West Sacramento’s many qualities, but the best way to learn about this community is to experience it firsthand.

Dine at one of the City’s diverse restaurants, where you can find everything from pad thai to the best breakfast burrito and milkshakes in the region. Enjoy a baseball game or a concert at Raley Field, home of the San Francisco Giants' Triple A affiliate, the River Cats. Watch a 35,000 ton cargo ship dock while you fish from the opposite bank. Take a walk along the City’s miles of hiking trails. Summit the climbing wall at the City’s new state-of-the-art Recreation Center. Visit the newest exhibit at the West Sacramento Historical Society Museum. Have a picnic by the water in the City’s beautiful River Walk Park. And everywhere you go, ask residents, business owners, and City staff how they feel about this community.

When you get to know West Sacramento firsthand, you’ll find a place where residents are proud of what their community has already accomplished, and looking forward to what they’ll accomplish next. West Sacramento is a place where no goal is too audacious; a place where a stable, fiscally responsible local government is guided by the concerns of residents and businesses; a community where diversity of opinions leads to better decisions, not divisiveness and inaction; and most importantly, a community where residents from all backgrounds live and work together with the common purpose of improving the quality of life for all.

Despite all of the City’s accomplishments to date, the best chapters of West Sacramento’s story are yet to be written. There are bridges to be built, levees to be strengthened, a streetcar system to be constructed, and entire downtown districts to be designed and built. Whether you already have a place here, or your story here hasn’t yet begun, I encourage you to join us as we craft the future of this amazing community together.
