Sacramento River Levels (I Street Bridge)
Check current river levels here.
MONITOR STAGE - The Stage at which patrol of flood control project levees by the responsible levee maintaining agency becomes mandatory, or the Stage at which flow occurs into bypass areas from project overflow weirs.
PROJECT FLOOD STAGE - The Stage at which the flow in a flood control project is at maximum design capacity (U.S. Corps of Engineers "Project Flood Plane"). At this level there is a minimum freeboard of 3 feet to the top of levees.
DANGER STAGE - The Stage at which the flow in a flood control project is greater than maximum design capacity and where there is extreme danger with threat of significant hazard to life and property in the event of levee failure. This is generally 1 foot above project flood stage.

We want to be prepared to protect you in the event of an emergency or disaster. The City of West Sacramento coordinates local flood preparedness and emergency planning events. Prior to the rainy season each year, for example, the City holds planning and coordination meetings with all state and county agencies and local reclamation districts.
The meetings include all stakeholders involved in flood preparedness, levee patrols, warning,
evacuation, rescue, flood fighting, care and shelter, disaster recovery and related readiness activities.
Evacuation Information
If you are required to evacuate your home, this is a list of a few things you should do before leaving
- “Know Your Zone” Tool: Zones are in place across the city, each with specific evacuation routes and rally points. Locate your zone on evacuate.yolocounty.org
- City Evacuation Map
- North Evacuation Route
- South Evacuation Route
- Gather your disaster supplies kit.
- Keep a full tank of gas in your car if an evacuation seems likely. Gas stations may be closed during emergencies and unable to pump gas during power outages.
- Turn off main electrical breakers.
- Turn off gas main on meter.
- Gather your family and go if you are instructed to evacuate immediately. Let others know where you are going.

Maintaining the Drainage System
Levee failure isn't the only possibility of flooding in the city. Localized flooding is also a threat. Proper maintenance of the city's drainage system is essential to reap the full economic and environmental benefits of the system. You can do your part by
- Checking the areas around your property that are prone to flooding.
- For subsurface systems, regularly make sure outlet ditches are not blocked with sediment and inlet covers are not sealed with debris.
- With surface drainage systems, regularly inspect the outlet channel and ditches after each heavy rain and remove silt deposits or other obstructions. Brushy types of vegetation, such as cattails, willows, and cottonwoods, are a menace to surface ditches. Cut or spray them once or twice each year as needed.
