Status: Design

Updates:

July 2026: B&M will start construction for the street improvements on July 27, 2026, and will approximately end on July 31, 2026. The work will include speed bumps, raised median, bollards, speed feedback signs, striping, and new signs. No Parking signs will be posted on street segments 72 hours prior to beginning of work. 

March 2026: City Council has awarded B&M Builders a construction contract at the March 18, 2026 City Council Meeting. Additionally, the City has selected Webster Engineering as the Construction Management consultant to assist with the construction.  

December 2025: The project team is in the process of completing the final plans and specifications. The project is expected to be advertised to bid in January 2025, with construction expected to start in late March/early April 2026. 

February 2025:  The following exhibit shows the traffic calming solutions, which includes speed bumps, bollards, signage, and striping.

The Capital Projects Department is hosting a community workshop on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at the Elkhorn Village Elementary School Multipurpose/Cafeteria Room.

Project Location:

Intersection of 6th Street and Cummins Way 

Background:

The City has prioritized this location to be analyzed for traffic calming and mitigation measures due to neighborhood concerns.  The City has engaged with the neighborhood to access and initiate traffic calming measures.  The traffic calming measures installed in 2022 include stop signs, advance warning signs, and striping. The City is in the process performing a feasibility study to further evaluate the intersection and prepare a comprehensive strategy.  

Description or Scope: 

The project objective is to improve safety at the intersection. To accomplish this, the City will prepare a comprehensive traffic calming and mitigation strategy including public outreach, technical studies, feasibility studies, and initial design plans.  

Project Benefits: 

The project will improve public safety at the intersection of 6th Street and Cummins Way.
