Background:
Park Boulevard serves as a vital east–west corridor in the City, connecting residents to key destinations including freeway ramps, commercial districts, schools, and city parks. With such a diverse mix of destinations and daily users and an increase in residential safety concerns, Park Boulevard experiences a high demand for safe, reliable, and multimodal transportation.
Scope:
The Park Blvd Resurfacing & Bicycle/Pedestrian Safety Improvements Project is designed to improve safety and mobility for all roadway users. Project improvements include:

Resurfacing and restriping of the roadway to create a smoother, more visible travel surface.

Lane striping modification and vertical delineators at the Park Blvd / Fallbrook Street / 16th Street roundabout for improved multi-modal safety

Improved striping of the Class II bicycle lanes with additional separation from vehicles.

Upgraded crosswalk markings, signage, and vertical delineators, particularly in school zones, to enhance pedestrian safety crossing Park Blvd.

Reduced vehicle travel lane width along Park Blvd and at the entrances to the corridor to reduce speeding and further prohibit commercial truck traffic.
Together, these improvements will create a safer and more convenient east–west connection, giving cyclists and pedestrians a comfortable alternative to higher-stress corridors.
Project Benefits:
The Park Boulevard improvements are designed to enhance safety and comfort for everyone who uses this key corridor whether traveling by car, bicycle, or on foot. By incorporating traffic-calming measures, the project will help reduce vehicle speeds and improve driver awareness, creating a safer environment for nearby neighborhoods, schools, and parks.
In addition, resurfacing the pavement will extend the life of the roadway, creating a smoother driving surface that is more resistant to drainage issues and large cracks.
Finally, the Class II bicycle lanes, improved crosswalks, and upgraded pavement markings will provide a safe and reliable east–west connection that encourages more people to walk and bike as part of their daily trips. These enhancements not only give cyclists and pedestrians an alternative to higher-stress roadways, but also promote healthier, more sustainable travel choices for the community.
