Project Update September 18, 2025: Slurry Seal Surface Treatment
Our street improvement project is moving into its next phase with slurry seal treatment scheduled for Thursday, September 18, Friday, September 19, and Monday, September 22. Please follow all door hanger and no parking signs.
On these dates, no parking will be allowed after 7:00 AM on posted streets. Vehicles left in restricted areas are subject to towing at the owner’s expense, so please make plans to park on nearby streets that are not posted. Streets will be closed during the work, with access limited to emergency vehicles only. In most cases, the surface dries within four to six hours, and roads are expected to reopen by 5:00 PM each day, weather permitting.
To help the process go smoothly, please:
-
Avoid driving, biking, or walking on freshly sealed surfaces until they are reopened to vehicle traffic.
-
Turn off sprinklers and do not allow water to flow into the gutters.
-
Watch for posted signs and follow any directions from traffic control staff.
Driving or walking on the new surface too soon can damage the treatment, stick to shoes or vehicles, and track onto nearby concrete or driveways.
Once the slurry seal is complete, crews will return over the next month for final restoration work. This will include painting roadway striping and stop bars. Crews will also be raising iron, a process that uncovers manholes and utility covers that were temporarily buried during construction. These finishing touches will ensure the roadways are fully restored and safe for everyday use.
We understand that these temporary closures and parking restrictions can be inconvenient, and we thank you for your patience and cooperation as we complete this important work.

Background:
The state streets neighborhood underwent sewer rehabilitation in 2020 and a water main improvement in 2021. The pavement condition in this neighborhood is poor.
The objective of the State Streets Infrastructure Projects is to correct some of the infrastructure deficiencies identified in the City’s Sewer Master Plan (State Streets Sewer Project), Water Master Plan Water Master Plan (State Streets Water Main Replacement Project), and Pavement Management Plan.
Description:
The State Streets Pavement Rehabilitation Project consists of two construction phases. Phase One will begin in October 2024 and focus on replacing curbs, gutters, valley gutters, and curb ramps. During this work, you can expect partial road closures, driveway closures, and restricted street parking.
Phase Two will involve resurfacing the streets in the project area using slurry seal and a Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) treatments. This phase requires full road closures and temporary detours. Phase Two is anticipated to conclude by Fall 2025.
