Southport Sacramento River Levee Improvement Project

South River Road Closure Announcement

Southport Levee Improvement Project - January 2018 Update

The contractor (AECOM) has now completed all major construction work for the 2017 season and the project is currently in winter suspension mode.  AECOM is actively putting together construction submittals, an updated schedule, and work plan for the 2018 construction season.  Over the next few months, the contractor will continue to have a small construction crew onsite performing cleanup work, maintaining erosion/sediment control devices, and carrying out minor construction activities.  Major earthwork/ construction operations are not scheduled to restart back up until mid-April 2018.  The most recent work items performed prior to the holidays included:  levee embankment placements along the setback levee and marina ramps, slurry wall installation, borrow harvesting operations, and site stabilization.  Throughout 2018, Flood Division staff will continue to provide updates regarding the construction schedule/activities, including:  setback levee work, fix in place levee work, new roadways, road closures, offset area grading, and other tasks to be performed.  The 2018 construction season will be a very busy one for the Southport Project, with over $35 Million of project work still to be completed.

Below are some of the major accomplishments from the 2017 construction season:

  • Hauled over 600,000 cubic yards of embankment material from the Riverpark Borrow sites
