Southport Sacramento River Levee Improvement Project

South River Road Closure Announcement

Southport Levee Improvement Project - September 2018 Update

Construction for the 2018 season continues to advance as we work towards completion of the remaining major elements of the project. Earthwork embankment placement along the south setback levee is substantially complete with slopes being trimmed and finished. The south fix-in-place section and north setback levee areas continue to receive fill material as they approach final elevations. All slurry wall work (conventional and DMM) along the project has been completed and embankment fill for the north fix-in-place section will commence in September. Levee degrade work at the north inlet/outlet continues and we are currently stabilizing the two south inlet/outlet areas with rock, soil, seed and fabric. Rock placement at the erosion repair site along segment C is more than 50% complete and moving along well. Throughout the month of September and into October, the contractor will continue to construct levee embankment, grade/stabilize the offset areas and finished levee slopes, construct the inlet/outlet areas, and continue erosion site repairs throughout the entire project corridor. The 2018 construction season has been a very busy one for the Southport Project and construction is on track to be substantially complete by the end of this year.

Below are some of the major accomplishments from the 2017 construction season:

  • Hauled over 600,000 cubic yards of embankment material from the Riverpark Borrow sites
