What Is Measure O?

In November 2024, West Sacramento voters approved Measure O, a one-cent local sales tax to provide approximately $20 million annually for general city services. All funds are locally controlled, with independent financial audits and public spending disclosures.

Measure O revenues are dedicated to:

  • Rebuilding roads and repairing potholes
  • Expanding police and fire protection
  • Recruiting and retaining public safety staff
  • Maintaining parks and trails
  • Addressing homelessness
  • Keeping public spaces safe and clean

How Measure O Funds Are Being Used

Capital Projects

The City Council’s two-year Measure O expenditure plan also invests:

  • Roads ($9.4M): Pavement preservation, rehabilitation, reconstruction.
  • Parks & Trails ($7.6M): Turf and equipment upgrades, irrigation improvements, security at Broderick Boat Ramp.
  • Facilities ($5.2M): Fire station upgrades, Fire Department training tower, planning/design for new Police HQ, Parks O&M facility upgrades, public safety technology upgrades.

Measure O is creating new job opportunities for residents in the West Sacramento community.

Thanks to the community’s support, the measure will fund 48 new positions over the next three years. Through these new roles, Measure O will create opportunities to strengthen essential city services including public safety, road repairs, park maintenance and more. These investments are already leading to faster emergency response times, upgraded community facilities and improved neighborhood infrastructure.

New positions made possible by Measure O:

  • Police Department (17 positions): 12 officers, 1 sergeant, 2 mental health clinicians, 1 property/records manager, 1 program technician.
  • Fire Department (11 positions): 9 firefighters, 1 fire mechanic, 1 administrative analyst.
  • Public Works (10 positions): 6 road maintenance workers, 3 chief road maintenance workers, 1 supervisor.
  • Parks & Recreation (10 positions): 8 parks and grounds staff, 1 facilities maintenance supervisor, 1 planning & development manager.
