Exciting Progress is on the Horizon for Bees Lakes
Following years of planning and collaboration, the City is preparing to begin construction on the Bees Lakes Habitat Restoration Project in late June. This project will enhance habitat for native wildlife, improve water quality, restore natural features, and create new opportunities for residents to connect with one of West Sacramento’s most unique natural spaces.
As construction begins, community members, trail users, and those traveling through the area may see equipment and restoration activities throughout the project site. While there may be temporary impacts during construction, the long-term vision is a healthier ecosystem and an improved natural space for future generations to enjoy.
We are excited to see this long-planned project come to life and look forward to sharing updates as restoration efforts move forward.
Project Overview
Bees Lakes is a 24-acre natural habitat area along the Sacramento River in West Sacramento. It consists of two water bodies that are hydraulically connected to the River and surrounded by a mature riparian forest. The City of West Sacramento was awarded a grant from the Sacramento/San Joaquin Delta Conservancy in 2018 to study the Bees Lakes area and develop a Habitat Restoration Plan and designs for proposed improvements.
The Bees Lakes Habitat Restoration Plan is a planning and design effort to:
- Improve the ecological value of the Bees Lakes property
- Improve water quality of Bees Lakes
- Improve Public Access and Management of Bees Lakes
