Heritage Oaks Park Improvements

The design and construction are funded in part by the Land and Water Conservation Fund and Park Impact Fees.  Approved funding for this project is $7,791,128.  Construction began in August 2025 and is expected to be completed by July 2026.  Construction will include a new outdoor amphitheater, nature play area, water play area, playground, public plaza with picnic pavilion, picnic and gathering area, BMX skills course with skate area, botanical/demonstration garden, natural turf area, trails including boardwalk through oak grove and pathways with fitness stations, prefabricated restroom, landscaping and lighting throughout as well as an expansion of the existing parking lot.

Heritage Oaks Park is located on a 9-acre parcel. 
More about the improvements to the park will include:

1. A parking lot expansion that includes an additional entrance and 29 parking spaces.
2. Inclusive playground that includes an ADA spinner and swing.  Additionally, the surface will be poured in place rubber.
3. A river themed spray ground.
4. A central gathering area that contains a restroom, picnic tables.
5. Urban plaza with many trees to provide shade.
6. Outdoor amphitheater.
7. Pollinator gardens and wellness path.
8. Decomposed granite trail with fitness stations and bench seating.
9. An elevated board walk through the center of the grove of trees.
10. Multi use turf area,
11. BMX skills course with skate features, picnic tables, and drinking fountain.

Project Updates

August 2025. Construction has begun.  A Groundbreaking Ceremony was held on Thursday, August 28, 2025 with Congresswoman Doris Matsui, City Council, Commissioners, City leadership,  and staff in attendance.

July 2025 Project construction is expected to start in August 2025 and be completed by July 2026.

May 2025 The Parks Department is hoping for the project to go out to bid by the end of May and procure a contractor by July.

March 2025 Heritage Oaks Park is nearly at 100% design. The final park design plans and specifications are anticipated to be released to the public to bid for construction in April/May 2025. The construction is expected to start summer 2025 and be complete by December 2025.  

September 2024 Heritage Oaks Park is expected to be at 100% design by September 2024.  The final park design plans and specifications will be released to the public to bid for construction in October/November 2024.  The construction is expected to start in March 2025 and be complete by December 2025.
