Authority

 

The city traffic administrator is authorized to issue transportation permits in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Vehicle Code for vehicles exceeding the weight and/or size and/or type limitations imposed by this title and the Vehicle Code. (CVC 35780) and (West Sacramento Municipal Code, Title 10). The fee for such permit shall be established by resolution of the council. (Ord. 99-2 Section 1, Exh. A (part): Ord. 88-17 Art. XVII Section 4)

 

The Traffic/Transportation Section is responsible for the administration of the Transportation Permits Program through the uniform issuance of Caltrans Transportation Permits Manual. Transportation permits must be obtained through this office when any vehicle within the City of West Sacramento’s jurisdiction (excluding state highways) exceeds the size, weight, and loading of vehicles, (i.e., 14' high X 8'6" wide X 65' long and 75' for STAA), as contained in Division 15, Chapter 5, and Article 6 of the California Vehicle Code. Except as specifically provided herein, the requirements of the CVC, including vehicle registration requirements, signing (CVC 27900) and other applicable laws, must be complied with in all particulars. The following procedures are requirements for issuance of a City of West Sacramento Transportation Permit:

  • Payment of transportation permit fee will be in accordance with the current City of West Sacramento, “Book of City Imposts” fees.

    1. Single Trip Permits: $16.00 (5 days)
    2. Annual Permits: $90.00 (Unlimited Trips)

  • Applicant may acquire transportation permits from the City of West Sacramento, City Hall, 1st floor, Traffic/Transportation Section located at 1110 West Capitol Avenue, (916) 617-4850 OR complete Transportation Permit below and FAX to (916) 617-5330. When filling out and submitting the permit application the applicant should follow the permit instructions provided to them. For all annual permits the applicant will submit a copy of their transportation permit issued by Caltrans Permits Branch along with a copy of their insurance carrier.

  • Whether requesting for a new permit or renewing an old one; applicants may choose to mail, fax or walk-in their application. Payment can be made in the form of cash, check or in-person only by credit card. Return and frequent applicants may choose to establish a draw-down account at a minimum of $500.00. Quarterly statements of current balance’s and permits issued will be sent by the Traffic/Transportation office to those agencies or companies that have established a draw-down account. Applicants who have faxed their application to expedite their request will also fax a signed copy of the check showing good faith to pay made payable to the City of West Sacramento, “Attention Traffic/Transportation Section”, for the amount owed on the permit.

    Note: Renewal notices will not be sent out; applicant is responsible for timely renewal of their permits.

  • Turn-around time for transportation permit requests will be as followed:

    1. Single trip permits – One/three days upon receipt of application request.
    2. Annual trip permits – Three/five days upon receipt of application request.

  • Attachments or accompaniments and permit provided to the permittee are to be carried in the vehicle to which it refers at all times while the vehicle is being moved within the city limits and shall be open to inspection by any peace officer, traffic officer, or any officer or employee charged with the care and protection of such streets and highways (CVC 35783). It is also understood and agreed by the permittee that all conditions have been read, and understood. The permittee agrees to comply with all conditions.

  • Permittee Responsibilities:

    1. Verify the Permit for the following:
      1. All Dimensions
      2. All Maps
      3. All Accompaniments
      4. Effective Date
      5. Expiration Date – Applicant is responsible for timely renewal of permit
