The City of West Sacramento is launching the Sycamore Trail Phase IV & V Feasibility Study to identify future bicycle and pedestrian connections that will complete the City's first continuous low-stress, multi-use trail linking neighborhoods across West Sacramento.

When complete, the Sycamore Trail will provide a safe and accessible route connecting northern and southern West Sacramento, improving access to schools, parks, neighborhoods, jobs, and community destinations. The trail will help address long-standing transportation barriers created by major infrastructure corridors and create new opportunities for walking, bicycling, and recreation.

Study Area

The feasibility study focuses on two major transportation barriers:

Phase IV: Crossing the Union Pacific Railroad and Sierra Northern Railway corridors to connect the Broderick and Bryte neighborhoods.

Phase V: Crossing the Barge Canal to connect the northern portions of the trail system to Southport.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate potential crossing options, identify feasible and community-supported alternatives, develop preliminary cost estimates, and create a roadmap for future project implementation. The study will evaluate a range of potential crossing concepts, including bridge and tunnel options, and assess their feasibility, cost, constructability, environmental considerations, and community benefits.

The Sycamore Trail is envisioned as West Sacramento's first continuous low-stress active transportation corridor connecting neighborhoods that have historically been separated by rail lines, highways, and industrial infrastructure. The project will improve connectivity, increase transportation options, enhance safety for people walking and bicycling, and provide better access to community destinations throughout the city.

The study supports broader City goals related to mobility, safety, equity, recreation, and environmental sustainability.
